The story behind the name.
Terman AI is named for Frederick Terman, the Stanford engineer who taught a generation of students to turn ideas into companies.
Frederick Emmons Terman (1900–1982) was dean of engineering at Stanford University from 1944 to 1958 and provost from 1955 to 1965. He is widely credited as the father of Silicon Valley.
Why Terman
Terman was a radio engineer and the author of a standard textbook in his field. As a professor he encouraged two of his students, William Hewlett and David Packard, to start a company near the university.
As dean he helped create the Stanford Industrial Park, which leased university land to technology companies and put researchers and builders side by side.
The idea behind our name is simple: an invention is worth most when its inventor builds on it, and protecting it is part of building. Terman AI exists to make the step from invention to filed patent application shorter and clearer.
